COMMENTS TO THE LIST OF ROY ORBISON RADIOSHOW-LONGPLAYERS:

A radioshow, either as actual vinyl (or in CD-format!) consist of one upto five longplayers. The shows are presented in either a neutral, pre-printed or specially designed sleeve and destined to be given to radiostations in the USA and Canada -for free- as complete one- upto five hours lasting radio-airings, complete with songs, interview segments and, above all, commercials.

The worked-out system is very profitable for the distributor of the shows; the DJs involved and the advertisers.

The advertisers do pay a huge amount of money to the producer/distributor of the show (and from thereon they get airplay of their adverts for free in both the USA and Canada!); the producer/distributor is cashing-in by the done com-mercials within the programs.

They make the sets and start distributing these on a contractual base to various radiostations. The DJs are getting the records for free and… are obli-ged to return the set after their airing-date(s).

It's a barter system, meaning that all parties are taking advantage of the worked-out concept.

Radioshows are much sought after and basically their are several concepts:

01) there are shows, lasting one upto five hours, that are offering songs, in-terviews and such by various artists;

02) there are issues done which are known as "feature artist"-releases and these do carry segments of one artist/group within each playing-hour;

03) the concept-shows are the most desirable ones, these are basically concen-trating on one artist/group only. In this case every complete hour is giving songs, interviews and facts about the artist/group involved.

04) a fourth variation are the so-named shows that are featuring 'live shows' of the artist/group concerned.

DJs only have the right to broadcast a 'show' via radio; any distribution to a private party -such… as collectors are-, violates that agreement and could get the DJ and producer/distributor of these shows in trouble.

The shows are distributed to more than 300 stations in the USA and Canada, each week on disc, except for stations in Texas -and some parts of Canada- which, for some reason, get a taped copy.

Stations do get the shows in EXCHANGE for air-time. The shows are given-away to radiostations with their sponsors' commercials included.

COMMENTS TO THE LIST OF TRAVELING WILBURYS 10-inchers:

01) as we all know the Traveling Wilburys were formed in 1987-'88; Tom Petty,

Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison all thought it

would be a stint to 'do something together'.

They formed the group 'Traveling Wilburys', a famous band of brothers -as

the info sheet by Warner Brothers gave to read- and they nicknamed them-

selves as Lucky, Otis, Charly Jr., Nelson and Lefty Wilbury.

Their first release, after a struggle of legal rights with their -at that

time current- recordcompanies brought: "Handle With Care".

It was a break-through and all over the world the 45 started to get air-

play and charted, soon thereafter followed by their album "Traveling Wil-

burys Volume 1". They made it really big and even to date, 2004, there

are still some four or five fanclubs in existence.

Their products were numerous, meaning that a single release like "Handle

With Care" popped-up as 3 and 5" sized CD-singles, with various jackets,

followed by several 45s of the same track.

These releases varied from standard to special editions like an United

Kingdom release w/special fold-out-cover and added "Traveling Wilburys"

sticker, while at the same time a 10" sized record was released, much si-

mular to the concept of a 78 rpm disc from the Forties and Fifties.

This 10" sized release was put in a brownish teinted sleeve, with the

group pictured on it! The above listed 10-incher was only first detected

some two-three years after their charting with "Handle With Care".

To date it's unknown how many records, CDs and other stuff has seen the

light-of-day! The list is endless!

While in one country a follow-up song to "Handle With Care" was released,

like "Heading For The Light" -in Germany-, the United Kingdom got "End Of

The Line". Due to their immensive chartings with all 'songs' released from

the album "Traveling Wilburys Volume 1" another LP was marketed, namely

"Traveling Wilburys Volume 3", this time however with no-support of Roy

Orbison, since Roy died all-of-the-sudden on the 6th. of December 1988

while "Handle With Care" was conquering the charts.

To date it's unknown how many -and which- illegally done releases has been

marketed, but… fact remain that more-illegal-than-legal items were done.

All discs from the group are nowadays hard-to-find!
